Wandering The Net
Have you ever gone wandering the net? Sure you have. How many times have you gone on the internet to check the news, the weather or your email, and clicked on this interesting link, which leads to another link of interest and so on? First thing you know an hour has passed and you still haven't checked your email or the weather and news.
So back you go to check your email, and someone sends you a link or you find one in a newsletter you subscribe to, and the cycle starts all over again.
There is another scenario where you go immediately to the computer to find out some information on a task you are doing or are considering doing. First thing you know an hour has past and you know you came to the computer to look up something in particular, but what the heck was it?
So you leave the computer because you have to get something productive done during this day. You get involved, and then it hits you, "oh now I remember what I was going to look up on the net," and you head back to the computer and the cycle starts all over again.
Is a new form of time management required? It is even worse when the computer is on all the time and close at hand, volume cranked up so you can hear the instant message call.
Wandering The Net - the latest way to absorb information you probably don't even need.
