Daytona 500

funnydrive Today is the 50th anniversary of the Daytona 500. I used to watch the race a long time ago and sort of got away from it.  Then for a period of time after the boys got older and they got interested in car races I began watching NASCAR once again.

As the boys grew up and moved away and I got a little bit older the interest once again sort of died. Then one day a friend introduced me to a racing simulator on the computer called rFactor. This is a simulator on the computer that you can race all different kinds of cars NASCAR, road courses, 4x4s - you name it, and you have to do the settings. All the setups are very important in order to compete and win the races.

This racing simulator generated new interest in watching the car races on TV. Believe it or not when you listen to their setups and the things that they do to make the cars go faster it applies equally well to the rFactor simulator on the computer.

So this afternoon I'll be glued to the TV watching the entire race of the 50th anniversary of the Daytona 500. Because the temperature is supposed to be in the 80° mark that will make the track a little bit slippery, plus they have a few new style cars on the go, it should be an interesting race.

I expect to see a few crashes and other interesting things with the cars sliding around, on a bumpy track.  My favorite driver is Jeff Gordon. He has been my driver for quite a few years since when he started out as a rookie.

So, along with a few others today there won't be much computer time as I'll be sitting in front of the TV watching the cars go, go, go, . . .
