Happy Valentine's Day
Valentine's day in this household was never forgotten, yet it was never what you would call a big deal either. I always brought home a dozen roses to my wife Rose, along with a small box of chocolates or something along those lines. She always had a card for me as I did for her.
Since losing my wife last summer, a lot of these days have a significance I could never imagine.
Memories come to mind how she would pamper those roses day after day for a couple weeks or however long they lasted. As the chocolate was shared, I am sure I had more then my entitlement.
We were not the type that went out much, no special dinner, no special night at some funky club. Our romantic evening was likely spent sitting on the living room couch, her feet across my lap, and my arm would be around her, watching TV.
Suddenly this year as I sit here alone, the true special meaning of Valentine's Day became quite clear. It wasn't the commercial advertising, or the roses, or the chocolate.
It was simply a special day that pointed out how much we loved and enjoyed each other, something we celebrated every day of our life together.
