Online Shopping, Who Are You?

I have used online shopping more than a few times with great success. Products received have been as expected with shipping times only a day or two.

I am in the market for a product in the computer line that is not normally stocked because it doesn't move fast enough for most to make a profit in a reasonable length of time. So I began looking around online where there is an abundance of suppliers because, let's face it, they have a world wide market.

deedoBut here's the catch. There are many online retailers that seem to have good prices, good policies and everything else. But where are they? Who are they? They have good reviews (with names that use initials, but no direct address), good sounding policies, and a fancy web page.

Here's the biggest 'but' - when you click on "about" or "contact us", all you get is "We are the most wonderful company in the world, everyone says so!", with a 1-800 phone number and an unrecognizable email address in the form of mycompany.com.

I don't know about you, but especially when I plan on ordering something online and paying for it in advance, I want to know exactly who I am ordering from, and their exact location. In fact I use my own method of cross-checking to see if they are where they say they are, and if their neighbours are aware of where they are.

Kudos to all the companies who put their full address on their site, with a phone number that isn't automated too much. And a golden one to those who have people that answer the phone and give you their name, or answer your email with an individual's name. That doesn't necessarily mean a supplier is 100%, but it does keep my attention longer and enables me to find out.
