Let Me Say That Again

Not long ago I was reading on someone else's newsletter or blog that the trouble with the internet today is that the same information appears too many times.  That's true, just do a Google search for almost anything, and look at how many duplicates of the same information you find on a variety of sites.

Here's another one. How many times have you sent someone an email, and they reply to you, often with a one line answer, and they include your original message.

It gets worse when someone sends you one of those 'cute' forwards with lots of graphics, pictures or maybe a powerpoint  presentation. Talk about a waste of time and bandwidth.

Why do people keep sending the original message back and forth? Sure there are some occasions involving transactions when you need to know or refer to the original message. Or sometimes when several or more people have to respond to a message, you also need the original as a reference.

On the other hand, if I send you a message and you reply, I don't need my original message included. I already know what I said. On top of that my email program keeps a copy, should the mind slip silently into neutral.

So do us a favour. Go into the preferences of your email program and uncheck that box that says "Include original message."
