Do You Realize What You're Doing?
"Do you realize what you're doing?" - I heard that parental statement a few time when I was growing up, usually the result when I was doing something stupid.
I was reading in one of my newsletters that employers are sometimes using information posted on Facebook to determine whether an individual should be hired or not.
I use Facebook a minimal amount, but am always amazed at the personal stuff people put on there, especially pictures. No wonder it is a gold mine for employers, right or wrong.
The other thing I was thinking, a lot of these folks are young, posting party pictures and other revealing photos all in fun. Some day a lot of these same folks will have families of their own. Would they want the family to see these 'happy times'? Or would they want them to scroll through the endless list of boyfriends/girlfriends?
Removing the stuff doesn't do much good. It is likely on a server somewhere. Even if it's not, how many people downloaded the pictures before you deleted? They may get reposted someday.
Facebook is only an example of hundreds. I know a person that records and saves every single Messenger message ever exchanged. I know another individual that saves every single email ever received whether trivial or not. Electronic media can live forever.
The current generation has been brought up on instant communications. It is second nature.
Being from that other generation, I often wonder: ""Do you realize what you're doing?"
