Widescreen
As I look over the sales one more time I begin to wonder just what is a widescreen? Is it a 4:3, or a 16:9?
Figures say you actually see more on a 4.3 computer screen than you do on a 16:9, although you would have difficulty today finding a monitor with the old dimensions.
Back to the sales flyers, I see an iPod Touch with a 3.5" widescreen. Somehow three and a half inches doesn't seem very wide to me. Beside that there is a 19" widescreen LCD computer monitor. Well that is a little wider than three and a half.
Then I go to another sales flyer and there is a 42" flat-panel LCD HDTV advertised. And they don't even say it is a wide screen. Seems to me that would be reasonably wide.
So I am confused as the advertising world once again takes over our every day language. The word widescreen doesn't carry much meaning anymore. And wait until you find out they measure it diagonally - that makes widescreen even narrower.
