Upgrade: It's not like it was before!
I would like to have a dollar for every time I have heard the words: "It's not like it was before!" after someone upgrades or installs a new version of a program.
Doh! You just installed a new version of a program that you were using. Of course it is not like it was before. Wouldn't that be the idea, to hopefully change things for the better?
Often interfaces are changed, buttons are renamed, and they are put in different places. Isn't that the idea? If you wanted everything to stay exactly the same, wouldn't it be more reasonable to just keep on using the old program that you had?
Sometimes programmers just change things because they want to or they think it would be better another way. Often though, the layout is changed because users requested it or suggested it in forums, by email or other means of feedback.
Many times you will not agree since you have become used to using a former layout in your favourite program. Be willing to accept a change and give the new version a try before you say - "It's not like it was before!" You just might find after giving it a chance and using your new favourite program for awhile that it really is not like it was before - it's better!
