Pickle du Jour

There are plenty of cartoons and emails with attachments that circulate around about stupid things old people do. I can say it like that because I am one.

oopsThey used to be real funny a few years ago. Now I find myself doing most of the things portrayed in those cartoons in a non-humourous fashion. In fact, one of my favourite old people cartoons is Pickles. It has been running for quite a few years, and I have found myself doing everything that was featured in those cartoons. Not one thing, but every single thing.

Well one of the highlights had to happen a couple of days ago.

I was having my morning shower that is supposed to make you clean and at the same time wake you up. First the water is too hot, then its too cold, I don’t have one of those fancy single lever always perfect temperature shower control faucets.

Things get adjusted and I reach for the body wash. By now my eyes are a little blurred from the water splashing first hot then cold. The wash smells a little pepper-minty, but it makes lots of suds and bubbles. Nothing like a good lather to start your day.

That part done, I reach for the shampoo, put a little dab on my hand and think “Geeze that looks crappy.”  The body wash had more suds than the shampoo. Kinda smells like oatmeal.

A burst of inspiration hits me, cause after all this shenanigan I am beginning to awaken to the dawn of a new day. I swiftly recheck the shampoo container – it’s oatmeal body wash! What?? I check the container for what I had assumed was body wash – oh no, shampoo with a touch of peppermint added for shiny hair.

I haven’t read about that one in the cartoons yet. Maybe its a first. Maybe I could win a contest. Just think a trophy “Pickle du Jour!” What an honour.
