People Are Like Sheep

pigrun Many years ago when I was in the military we had just completed an exercise of 48 hrs. on one of the bases. Everyone was glad the exercise was successful and over, it was good to be going home. Then it happened, not knowing we had just completed a locally initiated exercise, headquarters called one of theirs. As I arrived at the main gate, military police were sending everyone out the exit gate and directly back in the entrance gate.

It made my thoughts return to the farming days. “People are like sheep.” The herd was being sent back to the pasture.

As I watch the media hype about H1N1 with all the mix ups about priorities, where to go and what not, life hasn’t changed much. Groups are told they are priority and should get their shots at a certain place. Some stand in line for hours, only to be told, no, not today. If you get the flu, you can’t go to the hospital you have to line up at a clinic, perhaps even sent back to the hospital to another line up if you do in fact have the flu.

Parents and kids stand in line for four hours or more, only to find out supplies have run out, better come back tomorrow, or next week, we’ll let you know.

As I watch this procedure on TV, line up here, line up there, go here, go there, no stay put, we’ll let you know.

It made my thoughts return to the farming days. “People are like sheep.” The herd is still being sent back – only this time back to the barn.
