Appointment 8 - 5
"A technician will be there on such and such a date between eight and five." I like the way some companies schedule technical appointments.
Soon our abode will have both cable and dsl internet capability. That should make for interesting comparisons in the future. (We will call it A & E, with no reflection on the television network that uses the same letters.) That is if we ever get the dsl portion hooked up. This will be twice the dsl tech had to visit to get it working. Twice that I have heard the above leading statement.
You would think that companies that are dealing in leading edge technologies could schedule appointments a little more accurately than that. Most often these visits last less than an hour. I would say scheduling an appointment within a two hour time frame should be possible. In our case it doesn't matter because there is always someone home.
Consider a household where both parties are working. That means someone would have to stay home for an entire day to accommodate their 8 - 5 appointment. How acceptable is that? Well it seems everyone must be accepting it, because they are doing it. In fairness, they are not the only ones, as some delivery companies use the same procedure.
So we have high speed internet, but low speed service appointments. Some things may never keep up.
