Help With Your Computer
From time to time things can go wrong with your computer. Often you can fix it yourself by following suggested routines and troubleshooting procedures. Sometime though you need outside help.
You can turn to the local computer shop, which is sometimes not a bad idea, but that will cost money and the problem doesn't seem all that difficult. So who is next in line? Get one of your friends to do it. We all have friends who are computer experts right?
Always remember the saying: "If you think professionals are expensive, wait until you find out how much amateurs cost."
If you are going to let your friend fix your computer or install something on it, make sure you know just how 'expert' they are. They all mean well, and often appear like they know what they are doing, but do they? Or does it just seem that way because your level of knowledge is not up to what you think everyone else's is?
Just because they are always working on their own computer a lot doesn't mean they know what they are doing. Maybe they are messing their own up all the time and that is why they have to work on it constantly. Or because they installed something on their own, doesn't mean they can do yours successfully. Yours may be set up different and have requirements that do not match.
I mention this in the blog today because I sometimes help out others with stuff like I am mentioning. Installing things, making some adjustments and troubleshooting. Most often I do this by using a remote control program over the internet. This way I can turn it into an instructional session where I can do the job and show the owner how to do it themselves as well.
Increasingly, I have been running into botched jobs performed by the owner's friends. Twice the work is required to track down and fix up the previous mistakes. Common errors include files missing, files in the wrong folders, triplicate folders of the same files and other things that should never have happened.
So my advice is: "If you think professionals are expensive, wait until you find out how much amateurs cost." Learn to do it yourself, get someone you know for sure that knows what they are doing and who is willing to take the time to show you.
