CaringBridge

Today I am going to mention an organization that supplies a very good service via allowing you to make your own specialized web site. It is free although they will sometimes ask for a donation.

A friend of mine, a former co-worker, suffered a very severe health crisis recently. I was sent a link to his name on the CaringBridge web site. This is a site maintained by his family and they update it often as things progress. You don't have to call anybody, all the information is there whenever you choose to check. Better than that, you can elect to subscribe to an email notification that advises you every time an update is made to the journal.

There is also a guest book where you can leave your comments and let the family know you are thinking of them as they endure a family crisis.

Anyone can use it worldwide, and it is easy to set up should you have a situation going on in your family that you would like family and friends to know about. No emails or phone calls to dozens of people, just write a short paragraph in the site's journal and they are all notified and will know the updates to the situation almost as fast as you post it.

You may already know about it. I didn't. I think it is a neat and efficient concept. You might want to check it out by clicking on the link above, or the button on the right, and perhaps even bookmark it. I hope you don't have to use it, but it is handy if you do.
