Day Shift Time
Some of my friends still work. I had to quit. Well I didn't have to, but I couldn't say I was retired if I was still working right?
I did my turn at shift work in years gone by and it wasn't hard to figure out what shift you were working. Day shift, Evenings and Midnights. Sometimes the last two had special names like four to twelve, or the graveyard shift. Not too difficult to understand.
Not so today. I have a friend that works from 2 p.m. to 1:30 a.m. Even if my military mind switches that to 1400 to 0130 it doesn't work out. Is my friend working day shift or night shift? Evening shift or midnight shift?
Another person sometimes works from 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. Is that person working day shift? Evening shift? Nights?
I have heard the phrase "Times have changed," on more than one occasion. I am thinking the times haven't changed, just the way the hours are put together.
What are they going to do next, put the whole world on GMT/UTC time? That would be fun. We would all know what time it is - just not what shift we are working.
Course since I am not working I don't have to worry about time. Well maybe a little in a week or so. That's when we change from Daylight time to Standard Time. Speaking of which - if we are on Daylight Saving time, is it daylight at ten o'clock at night?
