Ban Sidewalks
When I moved into my place some thirty years ago there were no sidewalks in front of it. As time went on and the neighbourhood progressed, sidewalks were installed. There is absolutely no benefit to the home owner when sidewalks arrive on your side of the street. In fact just the opposite.
- First of all is the doggy-doo left by 'responsible pet owners' almost daily. It's in the grass and gets all over your mower in the summer, not to mention walking through that mess after you spread it, and its attractiveness looks just great.
- Then there's the junk spread by concerned responsible citizens. Coffee cups, pop cans, candy bar wrappers and other society trinkets that appear daily.
- Oh yes, responsible pet owners again - the pieces of sticks and other interesting items that people who walk their dogs allow them to leave on the edge of your lawn.
- Every winter your lawn gets torn up by snow removal contractors who use a Bobcat type vehicle for snow removal that has a bucket wider than the sidewalk. Great waste of tax payers money repairing that every spring.
- When this damage gets repaired, they use the cheapest possible sods available that are full of weeds and dandelions. No chance of that crap spreading to the rest of your lawn is there? (Around here they even have the nerve to leave a note in your mailbox that you, the home owner, are responsible for watering their weeds.)
Nope, I can't think of one advantage of sidewalks for a home owner, but the list of disadvantages could go on forever. Remember that song "Walk Like An Egyptian?" It might help you avoid the doggy-doo!
