Things I Don’t Understand
Time and time again I have been told times have changed, things are different today. I try to keep up with modern things, especially in the electronic gadget line. But there are some things – and sayings I just can’t get a handle on.
These lines are taken from various things, advertisements, country songs, grapevine gossip and so on. I need a little help with the explanation of these.
“In this country we have protest freedom.” – Huh? Protest Freedom? What the heck is that. Are we protesting freedom now? Or do we have the freedom to protest? The freedom to protest freedom? I give up.
“Do Not Call The Do Not Call List” – Is this confusing? How do you call a list? Anyway I am not going to call.
“Cleanest Dirty Shirt” – This one has to be from a country song. And I can relate to it a little bit. I have a whole basket of those, although it is a little bit of a problem figuring out which one is the cleanest.
“Pleasure Zone” – I have to tell you this is a TV program explaining the virtues of various techniques. But why is there a lone advertiser advertising Hepatitis B?
“Come Early Avoid The Line Up” – Explain this to me. If everyone did this, wouldn’t that create the line up earlier? I am missing something here.
“Nobody Ever Put A Handrail On A Rainbow” – Why would you want to? Can you walk on them? What happens if the sun goes behind a cloud?
“Try our unscented lemon brand” – Unscented lemon? Must be the new generic lemons.
I will stop there for now. I am not having a problem with the buttons, LEDs and electronic stuff. It’s when some people say things, and I have to say, “What?”
