Everything You Do Is For Someone Else
While I was researching something on the internet I came across a retirement site that had the statement: “When you reach a certain age, everything you do is for someone else!” Now I am not going to say what that age was for I am well past that.
Let’s look at that statement again: “When you reach a certain age, everything you do is for someone else!” Think about it. Oh if you are young, it doesn’t really matter does it? If you are over that certain age it begins to take on meaning.
For example, if lady luck was to hit you and you won a million dollars, you would probably give most of it to family or somebody else. It would be satisfying making other people happy, but you likely do not have enough years left to enjoy it yourself.
Let’s be more realistic. If you don’t win the lottery, but you decide to buy a new house, how many years do you have left to enjoy it? It’s not like when you are young and have more than half your lifetime left to make payments and arrive at the day it is paid off.
On a smaller scale, if you finally get that new car, or the big screen TV and you are at that certain age how long do you think you will get to enjoy it? Are you saying man oh man this guy is a pessimist? These are facts, think about it.
I was once told a story about a person asking, “How long do you think you will live?” Some would say, for example, 80. Out comes a tape measure and the person asks how old are you now? That much is subtracted from your guess, and if you are in your late sixties or older, you have very few inches left.
Now I am beginning to know why this blog has a tagline –=One Day At A Time=-.
