Annapolis Big Band Paradise Nova Scotia

This weekend found me doing something really unusual as far as my normal routines are concerned. I was invited to attend the 10th annual Moonlight Concert in Paradise, Nova Scotia.

Annapolis-1 Music was played by the Annapolis Big Band from just down the highway, Annapolis Royal. The music consisted of mostly tunes from the so called golden era, when Glenn Miller and Benny Goodman type bands were the rage.

The band is comprised of 17 musicians who easily entertained the crowd seated outside on their portable chairs. Singer Donna-Lynne Holmes added vocals that were an excellent reminder of just what the top songs sounded like in the big halls of yesteryear.

And the crowd was part of the entertainment as well, with some attending in their own particular costume of the 40’s era, while others dressed as members of their particular group. Picnic coolers were set up handy to the portable tables, complete with candles and table cloth in place.

Annapolis2 As darkness fell, so did the temperature. For this time of year it was more than cool, and even the moon decided not to attend until later in the evening, but the ambience of the lighting and glowing candles made it seem almost surreal

The crowd was fairly large, with a variety of middle age upwards being the majority, but at the same time a number of younger generations attended to make the mixture of folks well balanced.

What a wonderful trip down memory lane for a lot of those attending as they sang along with tunes they knew so well. In every sense, it was an evening of entertainment like no other.
