Computer Tip: Send Email to Undisclosed Recipients
One of the questions I get asked most often is how do I send or forward an email without showing and sending all the addresses.
Most of us agree that the worst part of receiving all those jokes, powerpoint presentations and pictures is scrolling through the list of names at the top to get to the main body of the message a screen or more down.
In addition, many people do not appreciate their email address being broadcast everywhere.
(Some people think it is good to leave the addresses there so everyone knows who it has been sent to and you won’t get as many duplicate copies. That doesn’t work, most recipients do not read all those addresses. Spam email harvesters do.)
- First of all, highlight the names that are already in the body of the message and delete them.
- Sometimes this takes practice, for if you have one of those emails with box lines around the main image or body, you have to be careful not to highlight the main body or image you are intending to send.
- You can highlight the names by holding the left mouse button down and scrolling down, or use the Shift key and the Arrows. Once highlighted press Delete.
- Then scroll to the bottom and take out the other junk, the advertisements, the virus checked messages and so on, using the same method.
- If you make a mistake, Ctrl Z brings it back quickly and you can start over.
Then add the addresses you want to send the message to by clicking the BCC item in your email program where it says To.
Rather than write this all out I will take advantage of others who have already done the work. By clicking here, this and more is explained very clearly.
It has been suggested our website, nscave.com should have more of these kinds of tips for beginners and those who haven’t much practice in these kinds of normal every day computing.
In due time we will endeavour to add a page including links to these everyday items to assist those who need it. Most of the instructions are already on the internet in many places, but that is no help if you don’t know how to search for it.
