Press V For English
There are certain things you are not supposed to talk about these days. In fact with some topics, not only are you held accountable, but would likely be charged if certain tones of expression were implied.
In this great country of ours, we are supposed to value diversity since our country is now made up of folks with a variety of backgrounds. I was brought up to appreciate every single person as an individual, and form my own opinion according to the friendship relationship between the two of us.
Throughout my working years, I was able to do this with almost perfect success. Over the years I got to know, work with and be friends, with people from many different backgrounds.
Now that I am in the later stages of life, I find my attitude is changing, and I don't necessarily like it. But my tolerance for little things is being put on edge almost constantly.
For example I find we are often changing our ways and traditions to satisfy a minority or so as not to offend, when in fact that item has always been 'ours'.
My latest experience in that regard was a telephone call from a well know credit company, wanting me to "take advantage" of new credit card interest rates. That person insisted I was paying way too much interest, when in fact I have never paid interest to that company because I have always paid any amount due well before the due date.
The person on the phone actually argued with me saying I had paid interest, interest that was too high. Then that same individual asked how much I owed. I said nothing - that if I did I certainly wouldn't be telling financial information over the phone.
The point of this, is not the content of the conversation, but the fact the conversation went on for well over five minutes. This person had an accent that I could barely understand, and most things had to be repeated several times. On top of that, there was enough background noise on the other end that it sounded like they were renovating a bath room. (I say bathroom because there was a lot of bs in the air.)
This is not meant to offend anyone, I have no reason to do that. My question though, is the above mentioned credit card company was very easy to understand when I first got the card many years ago, why should I now tolerate a soliciting phone call from a person that I have an extremely hard time understanding?
Why should I put up with this? They chose to call me. I did not call them.
Oh, that's what the 'Off' button is for - bugs!
