Drive Fast Get There Later

A few days ago our local police departments said the speeds people are driving today are ridiculous.  That’s an under statement isn’t it?

The Speed Collisions Lottery

And daily I monitor local Twitter feeds and hear about at least three to four traffic collisions each, during the morning and afternoon peak periods.

Why are people in such a rush to get where they are going, ignorant of all others around them?

By going faster and taking mini-chances, drivers seem to think they will get where they are going faster.

Take Chances Save Seconds

One of my careers was a driver trainer for large vehicles. We used to have studies that were made where drivers went from A to B at a normal rate of speed and caution, where others were allowed to go like heck and take chances.

In all cases the amount of time saved were only a few minutes, if they made it. In many cases the drivers taking their time and following the rules ended up beside the faster chance takers at the next traffic light or first stop whichever came first.

You can guess which group used the least amount of fuel with a lot less wear and tear on their vehicle.

Look at it this way.

Sometimes you may be a little late, or need to get somewhere really fast. If you decide to go really fast, which often includes taking chances, what happens if you get involved in a collision?

You most certainly will be delayed an hour or more filling out reports and explaining why and what you did.

On top of that you will be dealing with insurance and damage repair in days ahead if things are repairable - if you are lucky.

It could get worse. Because you decided to speed and take chances, you could get involved in a situation where death or injury is the result.

Now you can be tied up for months or even years with court cases and claims. All because you thought you would get there faster if you took a few chances and hurried.

$$$$    &    Sad smile

Believe me, your life, and that of others, can change in seconds if you decide to go faster and things go wrong in one of those uncontrolled seconds.

Even if you drive fast and get caught speeding, you will get there later.

Honestly now, is it worth it?
