Save Local Television

tv_video If you live in Canada you no doubt have been bombarded by advertisements on local channels to save local television. I predicted in a previous blog when this cash grab started that it would increase your cable bill by a substantial amount if you got on this cash wagon.

Have you checked your latest cable bill?  Your bill has increased, 1.5 % of my bill now goes to support local television. This works out to over a dollar a month for most people.

I think we should have the option to opt out of receiving local channels if we are being forced to pay for them. You can get them over the air for free if you really need them. People that don’t have cable can receive them, nearly every one can in most provinces. But because you are able and choose to have cable or satellite, you have to pay extra for them.

Personally I don’t need local channels if I have to pay more per month for them. Sure I watch local news programs, but I don’t need them. There are other ways for more up to date news.

In addition, so called local TV stations aren’t so local other than a few hours per day. The rest is filled with reruns, and shows that come from other countries.  Not only that, we are forced to watch the advertisements ‘chosen’ for Canadians.

I suggest we all fill out the form on the save local television page and say we do not agree to support. Let that be forwarded to those on the list.
