I Almost Disconnected My Last Wired Phone

Isn’t it funny how we get so used to the wireless world. The more disconnected we get the more connected we get.

Keyboards with no cord, a mouse with no tail, computers with no ‘real’ connection, cell phones and of course now days most of our house phones or landlines are cordless.

As is often the suggestion, I keep two wired phones around just in case the power fails. Cordless phones don’t do well in that situation, while wire ones tend to keep on humming. But cordless phones rule, for I have often made a dash to the other end of the house to answer the phone, when initially I was standing right beside the wired phone.

Not yesterday though!

WallPhone  The phone rang, and I answered on the wired phone in the kitchen, which just happens to be an old fashioned style wall phone.

After the usual “hellos” the person on the other end says, “ Tell me, have you got . . .”

“Sure,” I say, “I have it on the laptop in the living room,” as I make the mad dash to the favourite cozy chair.

Thwwwwaaaaakkkkk! Bing! Bang! Tickety – Whop!      What the heck was that?

Tell you what, those kinkies in the cord retract that receiver ‘tout de suite’ once you reach the two foot extreme.

My caller said, “You okay?” I didn’t tell this story.

From now on I make a vow to always answer the phone with the cordless unit – unless the power is off!
